AMPLIFY Publication

“AMPLIFY” Publication

The University of Oregon Media & Social Action Academic Residential Community (ARC) is a group of first-year undergraduate students bonded by their interests in communication and passion for social issues. During the year, ARC members learn how to harness digital, social and news media to raise awareness and move people toward meaningful action. The culminating project our cohort created was an online publication titled “Amplify.”

Each member of the ARC had to produce their own multimedia story based on a social justice issue in the Eugene community. This process included conducting interviews, writing the story, taking pictures and designing the story’s website layout.

I decided to write a profile piece on my volunteer supervisor, Jan Ferguson, who worked at a Eugene-based non-profit called A Family for Every Child (AFFEC). Its mission is to find permanent homes for foster kids and to assist homeless and at-risk youth by providing them with necessary resources. The story focused on Jan’s experience at AFFEC and discussed her perspective of Eugene’s homelessness crisis.

— A Brotherhood Against Toxicity —

ARC members were split into groups of 4-6 students to produce a multimedia story that covered an issue UO students face on campus. My group focused on toxic masculinity in fraternities. For this story, I was a photographer and copy editor.
